Wigs for Alopecia in London

Losing your hair to alopecia is not just a physical change — it affects how you feel every time you catch your reflection. At Simmys Wigs London, we've spent 25 years helping women, men and children with alopecia find hair they feel like themselves in again. We're proud to be an Alopecia UK Trusted Partner, which means the UK's leading alopecia charity recognises the standard of care and honesty we bring to every consultation.

Our Hendon salon is a private, unhurried space. There's no pressure to buy and no rushing you through. For many of our clients, their first appointment with us is the first time they've spoken openly about their hair loss — and that conversation matters as much as the wig itself.

Alopecia is not one condition

"Alopecia" simply means hair loss, and it takes several forms — which is why the right solution is different for everyone:

Alopecia areata causes patchy hair loss, often in small coin-sized areas, and can come and go unpredictably. Alopecia totalis involves the loss of all scalp hair, and alopecia universalis the loss of hair across the whole body. Traction alopecia results from prolonged tension on the hair, and there are scarring forms too. Whatever type you're living with, our job is to match a solution to your hair loss, your scalp, and your life — not to sell you a one-size-fits-all wig.

Because alopecia can affect a sensitive or fully bare scalp, comfort and cap construction matter enormously. We'll talk you through the options — glueless caps, silk and skin tops that mimic a natural scalp, and secure, non-slip fittings — so your wig stays comfortable and confident all day.

What we offer for alopecia

We hold a large, ready-to-wear collection you can try on the same day — no waiting weeks for a made-to-order piece:

Our real human hair wigs give the most natural movement and can be cut, coloured and styled like your own hair. Our synthetic wigs are a lighter-maintenance, more accessible option that looks far more natural than most people expect. For partial or evolving hair loss, our hair toppers and bandfalls add coverage exactly where you need it. And every wig is available with a glueless, secure fit suited to a sensitive scalp.

If you're not sure where to begin, that's normal — and it's exactly what the consultation is for.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an alopecia wig on the NHS? Some people qualify for an NHS wig, but the eligibility criteria are narrow and the choice is very limited. Many of our clients come to us either because they don't qualify or because they want a more natural, better-fitting result than the NHS service can offer. We're always happy to talk you through your options honestly.

Will the wig stay on if I have no hair at all? Yes. For a fully bare scalp we use secure, glueless fittings — including silicone-gripped and medical-tape options — so your wig stays firmly and comfortably in place without needing your own hair to clip into.

Will people be able to tell I'm wearing a wig? With the right cap construction, colour match and cut, a good human hair wig is virtually undetectable. Our skin-top and lace-front options recreate the look of hair growing from the scalp, and we fit and trim every wig in person so the hairline sits naturally.

Do you help children with alopecia? We've supported clients of all ages. Please call us on 020 8202 5263 to discuss a child's needs and we'll advise sensitively on the best approach.
